About
Inherent Vice is a queer heritage and arts zine, curated to inspire new ideas, spark conversations, inform practice, and foster the development of a queer space within our professions.
What is Inherent Vice?
Inherent Vice is a queer heritage and arts zine, created to inspire new ideas, spark conversations, inform practice, and foster the development of a queer space within our professions.
Who is it for?
Created with heritage professionals such as conservators, archivists, and collection carers in mind, Inherent Vice is also for anyone with an interest in queer culture.
Our mission
-
Develop Understanding
We work to develop the sector’s collective understanding of queer heritage and champion the idea that queer history is everyone's history.

-
Empower Advocacy
We empower collections professionals to use their voices and positions within their institutions to advocate for marginalised communities, their material culture, and their stories within the art and heritage sectors.

-
Inspire Reimagination
We inspire conservators, collections carers, archivists, and other museum staff to reimagine the boundaries of their roles, explore new collaborations, and enrich their professional practice and outreach.

-
Encourage Diversity
We encourage diversity within the sector through cultivating a queer inclusive space, and generating meaningful conversation around queer arts and heritage in conservation and collection care.
Aims
-
To build an archive of issues that serves as a lasting record of queer heritage practice from past present and future.
-
To make the magazine accessible by placing it in museums, archives, and organisations across the UK and Ireland.
-
To support knowledge exchange between conservators, archivists, curators, and collections carers.
